Resources for Studying the Bible

“You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, and training them up in God’s fear, and minding the house, and making your household a church for God, as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of hosts.”

Charles Spurgeon

It’s hard to train our children in a way we don’t know.

It’s hard to make our household a church for God when we aren’t studying His Word.

And it’s very hard to train our children to love God, follow God, and read the Bible when they don’t see us going that way ourselves.

I grew up in church and was always very involved. We went to church on Sundays, Wednesdays… and even Monday nights when I was a teenager (anyone else remember doing “visitation” one night a week or was that only Southern Baptist churches?).

I have been a believer in Jesus Christ since I was young and have regularly done devotionals and quiet times throughout my life. I’ve gone on mission trips nationally and internationally. All of this isn’t to toot my own horn. It just emphasizes how sad it is that, in my late 20’s, I realized how little I had actually studied the Bible during my life.

I’d read lots of daily devotional books.

I’d given My Utmost for His Highest.

I’d worked on leading a Purpose Driven Life.

I’d read sooo many different women’s opinions and interpretations of the Bible as I participated in women’s Bible studies that used Lifeway devotional books.

But using the Bible alone during my quiet time? That just hadn’t been my regular practice.

Thankfully, God led me to pick up Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin and it really was a wonderful turning point in my walk with Christ.

It challenged me to study the Word. Not someone’s else’s words about the Word.

I have grown in my faith so much since then and this method of study has strengthened my faith more than any of the previous books or studies. Understandably so.

I now have a passion to encourage women to really know what they believe. Know what the Bible says. Study the Word. Delve deep. Ask questions. Grow in your faith.

I hope that we at Mighty Pines can dive into the Word together and grow alongside one another as we read what the Word says and see how God uses it in our lives.

We can rest in the truth that “all Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Every week at Mighty Pines, we have a short 10-15 minute Bible study before co-op begins, that is open to any moms who want to participate.

We utilize exegetical study in our weekly Bible study time. It’s a complicated word, but it’s pretty simple in practice.

It really just means that we will work verse-by-verse through books of the Bible. We will discuss audience, author, context, and more to truly understand what the Bible is saying and how it applies to our lives.

We would love to have you join us as we learn and grow together!

RECOMMENDED RESOURCES

I wanted to compile a list of resources that you can use as you seek to live as a gospel-centered mom. First and foremost, I encourage you to read the Bible as your main source of truth and growth. No book or resource should ever replace the word of God. We should never be reading these helpful tools more often than we are reading the Word. I have tried to curate gospel-centered resources that can help you as you grow in your faith.

Please note: We at Mighty Pines do not affirm every aspect of every resource, and inclusion on this page doesn’t equate to a full endorsement of all an author’s works.
